Hey,
noticed you commented on my school, Denver School of Science and tech (DSST), and just wanted to say, yeah it looks great but has it's own problems. There are 'laptop charging areas' which are not in use at all and oddly enough there isn't a single room with enough outlets, though it was designed for a laptop-per-student school. That combined with the 36% non-graduating rate (due to school changes and drop outs) doesn't make it as ideal a place to be as it sounds.

Athena,

I absolutely agree with you about the literacy activity site. I just looked at it yesterday and LOVED it! I babysit all summer, so I for sure will be looking into some or all of the activities to do with the kids this summer. They truly do have some wonderful ideas. If you go to the home page for the State of Michigan, they have ideas for all of the different grade levels as well. :)

See you after "break" :)

Athena, had you never said you are not a people person, I would never have known. I remember being in a group project together last year for one of our science classes and you were crucial to my enjoyment of the group work. You were, and still very much are, enthusiastic, witty, and encouraging. You are easy to talk to and also a very good listener; I notice this in class because you really can exemplify the teacher-term "active listening" :) I really don't think you have anything to worry about; I don't think that teachers necessarily have to be outgoing, social butterflies. It's just as important to be a thoughtful person; and you do have a lot of great ideas to share! I understand the fear, but I think that we all have some characteristics of ourselves that we think might not be particularly fitting with what we have planned for our future, and I don't think there's a single thing wrong with that.

Athena, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one struggling with these feelings. I often feel out of place in social situations because I am also insecure. I feel like you do a much better job of hiding it than I do though! I don't know how others view you, but the fact that you seem so unafraid to raise your hand and be part of the discussion is admiring. I have such a fear of talking in front of my peers that I never even raise my hand. Keep it up because you may inspire others to follow after you!
